For context, a Granthi is a reader of the religious text, employed by the Gurdwara for daily services.

If you are in South India and are poor, how are you going to find a gurdwara?

I never considered that covering one’s hair/head in the gurdwara might be difficult or uncomfortable for some people.

If you ever want a meal, someone at the gurdwara might be able to load up a plate for you while you wait outside.

A better analogy might be 'soup kitchen' staff, gurdwara kitchen staff (at least I assume they're volunteers?), church choir & bell-ringers, etc.

Go and have a wander round a Sikh gurdwara.

Notably with the Sikh's the langar hall (where langar, a free meal, is always served) is the hub of a Gurdwara - seemingly food is the great social leveller!

I'm not a player but I attend services at the Sikh Gurdwara when I can and I will admit that I really am not a fan of the harmonium in comparison to other pre-colonial instruments.

E.g: - Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee - This organisation is governed by the Chief Minister of Punjab (an elected politician) and is entrusted with the security and maintenance of all Gurudwaras and religious places of importance of the Sikhs.

Langar doesn't have to be in a Gurdwara.

I like the Sikh approach in providing meals at every Gurdwara.
