In his dissertation[1], Roy Fielding always refers to data in terms of resources rather than specific formats.

It was done by Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt under the guise of The Mighty Boosh.

What if we assume, for the sake of argument, that Fielding himself is the bad actor here?

I disagree that it's easy to take decent photos and then deal with a sales process (fielding calls, negotiating, etc).

Rather boggled we're even still fielding this level of ignorance and/or FUD.

The sheer expense entailed in fielding thousands of citizen-soldiers (and later professional mercenaries), kitted out in thirty or forty pounds of bronze arms and armor, while at the same time constructing monumental architecture.

Well the air force has put Gen 6 procurement into it's FI2016 budget with a goal of completing fielding by 2030, so yes 2025 adoption for Gen 6 fighter is a reasonable estimate.

I think that, in the part of the email that you are not quoting, Roy Fielding makes a very good point that TLS everywhere is not just a technical issue, but has significant social implication.

Its a rifle of course, and rifle ammunition you can't make at home, but as others have mentioned you can make black powder weapons in a completely untraceable way (from making your own black powder, to casting your own lead ball shot) but we're not worried about a bunch of home hobbiests fielding a Napoleonic infantry.

I'm not even sure that TLS can reliably perform "authentication of the connection" as Fielding states.

"That would only prove there is a serious problem." Only if you accept Fielding's attribution of motive, which is a bit circular.

If it were, then maybe someone should also mention Fielding's own interest in enabling insertion of ads by proxies.

This use is somewhat consistent with Fielding's, though it would probably be better to focus on naming the particular element.

And having people smarter then me (like Roy Fielding) agreeing this does not do much for privacy rather content confidentiality (and actually making communication less private) is not making me any more convinced.
