You can get all kinds of (very questionable) highs from tons of OTC drugs: diphenhydramine (benadryl/zzzquil), dextromethorphan (Robitussin), doxylamine (NyQuil)...

Older first generation antihistamines such as Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), Doxylamine (Nyquil) have substantial Anticholinergic activity.

I’ve only ever heard of DPH and Doxylamine (which I’ll on occasion use as a terrible sleep aid).

Things like doxylamine succinate, melatonin, valerian affect everyone differently, and you're opening a whole nother can of worms with the allergies/dosage/legal angle.

I’ve used doxylamine (similar antihistamine) as a sleep aid and I wouldn’t trust myself to do much.

If they take Robitussin Nighttime Cough DM, that has doxylamine succinate in it.

There are two kinds of Unisom: diphenhydramine and doxylamine succinate.

And why can't I find an actual good antihistamine Doxylamine succinate sold separately anymore.

Everything I can find says Benadryl is diphenhydramine, and Unisom is doxylamine.

I'm one of those freaks who is OK using doxylamine after researching it, and I find it really beneficial on top of the melatonin.

So in the end I figured it was the dextromethorphan, perhaps with some help from the Doxylamine as anxiety featured in my experience as well.

Something like Restavit (available OTC here, doxylamine succinate) makes me feel "tired" but does not seem to help me get to sleep.

Doxylamine is a first generation drug marketed under the brand name Unisom for insomnia, whereas a common second generation antihistamine loratadine commonly includes the phrase "non-drowsy" on the box.

Also sometimes sold as Unisom but to be distinguished from the Unisom that is Doxylamine.
