Back in Bogota, one interesting side point is that Uber cars generally do have seatbelts, and are in much better condition than the typical street minicabs.

We looked at more southern destinations, like Medellin / Bogota, but then the flight times to SF and NY start making 1-2 day trips less feasible.

Until we get something like Bogota, Colombia, these things will happen.

Enrique Peñalosa, former Mayor of Bogota said that "An advanced city is not one where even the poor use cars, but rather one where even the rich use public transport", and imho he is completely spot on with the issue of transportation.
