I think Terry Bisson (or perhaps another author, can't quite remember who) wrote a story with this premise - that UFOs do exist, but they are actual factual faeries.

Reading this article made me think of Terry Bisson's "They're Made Out of Meat", particularly apropos the conversation earlier today about the Fermi Paradox.

It's a shame whoever put it at MIT didn't credit the author, the excellent Terry Bisson.

The author, Terry Bisson, is now in his 70s and has bowel cancer.

I suspect the terminology "meat" is mostly a homage to Terry Bisson's short story "They're Made Out of Meat".
