beancount

Nowadays, I feel like the Beancount is much better when using modern AI.

It covers the full Beancount syntax, all the booking methods, a BQL query engine, plugins (including rust and python).

For others who don't know what Beancount is (the link on his site is 404).

I have looked at beancount and a few other double entry systems several times over the years.

There are examples in beancount but each bank was different for me.

There's also beancount and abandon, both use similar/the same data format.

I never tried it because I came across ledger/hledger/beancount first and, being command line tools, they appealed more to my sensibilities.

I keep all my accounts in accounting software (originally Wave, then beancount) 2.

Abandon and beancount's file formats are more different.

In 2025 I started managing my small business finances using hledger (started with beancount, but got confused with missing packages in the new version).

Those interested might also check out beancount.

I chose hledger (because of possible performance issues with beancount).

A fresh intuitive UI is great but Beancount's format is so simple it's hard to beat.

Beancount is both, but you can do either one or the other or both.

It works with Beancount, a plain-text format for double-entry accounting and calls on different skills depending on where it is in the process.
