bazqux

Not free, sorry (although cheap), but as far as web-based alternatives go I recommend BazQux (bazqux.com).

The first thing that grabbed me about bazqux was just how fast and responsive it felt to use.

I've been using BazQux since the Google Reader close and have been pretty happy with it.

I found BazQux when Google Reader died, and have been thrilled with it ever since.

I'm a developer of BazQux Reader and can't remember that I removed any major feature.

That said, I generally interface with FeeddlerPro on my phone/tablet rather than directly hitting bazqux.com.

To be fair, I'm guessing that BazQux is not getting the same amount of traffic as many of the other alternatives.

BazQux and Pinboard are two simple services that I am extremely happy to pay for, based on their usefulness, reliability, and value.

It has better fonts and whitespace than bazqux (to name one I like), and it's better for reading a lot old comics.

I'm currently using bazqux[1] since it is fast and has a no-frills interface.

I don't think I've noticed a single issue with BazQux so far.

I must've tried like 300 replacements, and settled on bazqux, which is pretty good (though a bit ugly, and doesn't have a good mobile site).

I use Bazqux, which is absolutely superb: * Rock-solid, I haven't seen an outage * Impressively fast (Reeder updates from it much faster than it ever did with Google Reader: I can get all my feeds in one Tube stop's worth of wifi) * Has good features like filtering (goodbye "latest podcast" spam) and highlighting (only see certain posts from high-volume feeds * Great keyboard UI on the web.

Bazqux is also great because it can fetch content from social media - Twitter, Google Plus, some Facebook, etc.

I also use Bazqux, and endorse every point bonaldi made.
