Do you mean something the Batik library could do?

About the Batik library: What makes you think that it is the JVMs fault that it uses that much memory?

I often use a MediaWiki + xfig for this, generating additional graphics with GNU plot or batik for SVG.

That's all vague and arguable: but what about the awesome Indonesian Batik shirts?

The PHP script[1] is just a simple proxy to pass the SVG content to a well-regarded Apache Batik toolkit which then does the actual SVG->PNG conversion.

If offered an interview, I would be tempted to show up in silk batik....

There is already an SVG editor written in Java called Kiyut Sketsa, it is unusable due to the poor performance of the Batik rendering engine (also written in Java).

And even gluing JARs is kind of pointless: Java itself, with its plethora of autocompleting IDEs, is a much better environment to learn and experiment with APIs like Batik or Apache POI.

One options is "Batik Rasterizer"[1] - it is a single.jar file, fast, and accurately renders 99% of our cases.

My desktop text editor, KeenWrite[0], uses EchoSVG[1], which fixes numerous issues with Apache Batik[2].
