I've been pulled over (1997) while being a passenger in a older (1970sh) truck in Palo Alto at night.

It's a bit harsh as well, when we're comparing to alto saxophones and clarinets and such.

When I moved to Palo Alto in 2011, I had this weird sense that their was a hidden secret behind every term used.

I've tried most of the non-brass instruments: alto clef, not that hard to transpose to anybody that's able to read a piano's grand staff.

And the person who bought the home in Palo Alto in 1981 is only paying 1/5 of the property taxes as the person in a comparable home who bought recently.

I've never considered myself a good woodwind player, but at the point I tried to learn bassoon I'd played a reasonable amount of saxophone (alto and tenor) and clarinet.

Oakland or something may be a different situation (not sure if doing the South Bay thing would even save you any money - Palo Alto ain't cheap), but anecdotally people in Utah get told the same thing again and again.

A friend (and maker and seller of tech companies, so he's quite well connected, much better than I) living in Palo Alto has told me he knows of no one who works at Google in engineering who isn't an acqui-hire.

It's a free market system Except, corrupt foreign millionaires and billionaires are buying up in-demand US real estate (SF, LA, NYC) as safe houses (see: russian and arab mobsters/politicians/princes buying condos with 3 bulletproof safe rooms) and long term investments (see: chinese family buying Palo Alto homes for their newborn daughter because they know she will go to stanford in 20 years) without living there.

On the flip side, a couple years earlier, when I had just moved to the Bay area in 1995 (from Vancouver,BC ) I had gotten a bit lost with friends, and had slowed down, and were stopping at various intersections in East Palo Alto trying to get our bearing.

With a location near Palo Alto/Stanford and the region I would bet it becomes unbelievably high in demand.
