The Alef compiler was written in C too, never in Alef.

Most of the other stuff is a refinement of previous Rob Pike languages Alef (1992) and Limbo (1995).

You mean CSP-style, like Alef and Limbo from Bell Labs?

Plan 9 and later Inferno (with Alef and Limbo) would have been better, but they went nowhere.

Then from Alef came Limbo, the language running on top of the Dis VM that formed the core of the Inferno OS.

Some of the style reminds me of Alef from Plan 9; in particular the communication channels, but also a fair chunk of the syntax.

Much as Alef superseded Newsqueak, so Go has superseded Limbo.

Occam was one, and Bell Labs, creators of C, Unix, etc., used it in Alef and Limbo amongst others.

Go is the logical evolution of the Limbo language used to write native applications for the Inferno OS, itself evolving from Rob Pike's research with Alef and Newsqueak.

"C-family languages" here means C, C++, Objective-C and D -- not any of the "look-like-C-but-have-completely-different-semantics" languages, or Go which is probably closer to proposed C replacement Alef than to C itself.

Second, you could say acme was rewritten from alef (not C) to Limbo, and maybe you can say cat, tail, mk and yacc were "rewritten in Limbo", but soon after the list ends.

"microthreads", channels, and the select statement predate go at least by a couple of decades in Alef, Plan9's libthread, Limbo, Newsqueak, etc.

Plan 9's userspace was originally written mostly in Alef, a predecessor of Go, then translated to C.

Those slides are an interesting read generally if you're not familiar with CSP/Alef/Limbo-style programming, despite the crufty Occam syntax.

From Newsqueak arose Alef, which refined on it but had manual memory management.
