Our group of friends used to play Settlers of Catan, but we switched to Agricola mostly these days.

I've played Agricola about 10 times or so now, but I'm eager to play it more often.

This makes putting $80 down for that copy of Agricola much easier.

Yes I woudl have said that Catan is a lot more complex tactically - Agricola is another good Euro style game.

While agricola does have significant luck in the inital game state, this is lessened by drafting the initial cards which almost all advanced players do.

The original Agricola rulebook is almost completely unusable and the only way to learn how to play back in the day was someone who already knew how to play teaching you - I presume in an unbroken oral tradition all the way back to Uwe Rosenberg.

I call bullshit with much more conviction that 15 years ago when I was first exposed to "agricola agricolae agricolae".

Agricola: a classic worker-placement game that adds a bit of Dominion-like thinking about creating good card-combos.

We tend to prefer games like Agricola, Powergrid, Caylus, and El Grande these days.
