Its a bit like my Oric Telestrat, which was an upgrade to the Oric-1 -> Atmos machines, in that it gave a full 64k and had expansion options.

Turn on the old Oric Atmos machine, boot up a disk full of software, have a great afternoon.

Anyone know of any efforts to do that - my Oric Atmos sessions would definitely benefit!

That's something the speccy users have got up on us Oric people, heh heh..

And Apple II did things Oric Atmos could not even dream of.

Wow - this is really taking the Oric far.

Twilighte found a new video mode for the Oric-1 which inspired him to write games that were a bit more modern in their sense of quality and playability - I think the machines that came after the Oric inspired him quite a bit.

I have a collection of old systems, and I've been able to keep my oldest - a 30 year old Oric Atmos - alive quite easily, while teaching myself a bit of electronics to boot.

Months earlier my friend with the Oric had bought an external floppy, but it died also, so he found a way to seek from the begining of the head to the end and control it with the shift keys, then he assigned letters to correspond to different seek, and it sounded a bit like piano.

I don't know about that - I've been following the Oric scene for a while and my perception is that there are indeed old programmers returning to the systems of their youth with renewed vigour, but also a better understanding for how to organize their project - and sources - in a way that makes more sense.

Heck, we even got new hardware for the Oric-1/Atmos platform in the form of a dedicated disk emulation system, whose microcontroller alone, itself, is more powerful than the Oric ever was, but which nevertheless is being pressed into the disk-emulating duties that makes the Oric-1, at last complete.

His "Oric" was pluggable into TV set, had better colors, and used tape.

My experience when I was 13 was with the Spectrum, but after getting back in contact with "the old 8-bit world" I think the Commodore 64, the Amstrad CPC, or even the Oric could be quite interesting to revisit and explore; and I'm sure there are still some users out there that would love new software!

There is a lot of passion for the Oric-1 these days, that is for sure..

If you've got the druthers, you can get a really nice taste for my favourite 8-bit machine from that era, the Oric-1/Atmos.

By the way, my favourite emulator is Oriculator, which emulates the Oric-1/Atmos/Telestrat/Pravetz 8-bit machines that never had much of a chance in the 80's..
