They have already been buying eg Braintree to consolidate, and now they will have more cash for acquisitions.

We've been with Braintree for two years, and are about to use them for a second startup.

And honestly it wasn't really needed with Stripe and Braintree now in the market.

It's a smattering of options: PayPal, Authorize.net, Stripe & Braintree are all good ones.

Is braintree willing to negotiate on these costs?

Assuming they will want to avoid wasting resources battling each other the next logical step would be for Stripe to launch in South Korea and for Braintree to launch in Indonesia.

Well in that time, I'd guess 1.) Venmo launched, grew, and was acquired by Braintree (August 2012, then by Paypal, September 2013).

As opposed to Stripe.js where the credit card inputs in a custom designed form live on the merchant's DOM, Braintree just set it up so that it replaces each field with an iframe (that also allows for custom styling), so that the credit card info gets entered directly to Braintree despite it looking like your own page.

When the Uber app needs consensus with the banks in order to mark a payment as "legit", it uses just few kb's of bandwidth and a couple of requests to communicate with Braintree.

Venmo was saved by being acquired by Braintree, which was acquired by Paypal, who is licensed.

Braintree recently launched in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, now Stripe in Japan.
