For my using OP in my post, well, here on Hacker News (HN), that is a standard abbreviation.

Well, D, A and CH are the international symbols for these countries, so the abbreviation makes sense.

When I'm on HN I'm building up a professional reputation, so I use my real name (or at least an easily searchable abbreviation of it) here.

This abbreviation is because later tests cannot be expected to work if earlier ones don't, so it's not worth listing them (though it's still a little inconsistent which are listed).

I could absolutely conceive of a situation where a certain determiner phrase gets used so much in a community that an abbreviation becomes accepted as a new determiner.

The way developers somehow think DevOps is (or should be) an abbreviation of "Developers doing/replacing Operations" is terrifying to me.

True, but "ref" is ambiguous since that abbreviation is usually used to mean "reference".
