Yesterday, someone asked r/vexillology which one among 10(!) was the proper flag for the Isle of Man.

Facebook isn’t a pets/cars/vexillology site, it’s an all-site; it and its kin are designed to contain almost all of humanity’s interests.

Alright, sure, some of the flag designs are not well done, but I doubt you're talking about vexillology.

If you have a reasoned opinion about flags, there's a reasonably good chance it's because you saw or heard Roman Mars talk about vexillology.

To save other people the trouble, vexillology is the study of flags.

Anyone have enough vexillology to know what the appropriate search terms would be for a "widely replicated, continuously displayed, cloth-based political symbol"?

It all boils down to "flaggy code" -vs- "spaghetti code" (or vexillology -vs- pastafarianism).

But can you type "vexillology" without laughing?

While it may be true that vexillology isn't a strictly defined academic field, calling people who are interested in it "flag obsessives" is quite demeaning — all the more so considering that not only are fans of vexillology not necessarily "obsessed", but also that one can well be obsessed by flags and yet have no knowledge of vexillology.
