The only crap stunts here are by the car company pretending to fix the issue and knowingly leaving everyone vulnerable.

Tightly centralized government isn't dragged down to the average, so they can pull stunts like that from time to time.

PR stunts like this get people more interested in a great thing.

It is, but it stunts educational progress by 5-6 years.

"Grand Endeavours" aren't made up of PR stunts and ridiculous plans - they're made up of really smart, tough people working on really hard problems for a long time.

Pulling irresponsible stunts isn't an appropriate response "to make people pay the proper amount of attention." If someone had died from this stunt, the total number of deaths from remote hacking of cars would be 1.

So from Kickstarter’s perspective, well-funded “crowd-funding” campaigns that are actually marketing stunts is very good business, and I predict they are going to shift more and more of their emphasis this way, just as consumer-facing companies often gradually shift to becoming enterprise-facing companies.

Stunts like this are obviously of more interest for you than they are for me.
