paredit

ParEdit (paredit.el) is a minor mode for performing structured editing of S-expression data.

Using the same tools (paredit) to edit html that you use to edit Clojure makes html finally tolerable.

The other big advantage is that s-expressions make it much easier to write structural editors like paredit.

Editing complex expressions is needlessly complex and doesn't even compare to structured editing with paredit in Emacs.

Other than the lack of paredit, could you be more specific about the syntax isn't good?

So anyone who finds this frame-based concept attractive will probably like Lisp's s-expression syntax and paredit mode in your favorite editor.

Lisp code is an explicit tree structure, and what Paredit does is enforce that structure.

I wouldn't give a newcomer emacs (or vi) but I would give them the concept of paredit.

It's indeed not paredit, but you can do most paredity things using this single primitive and copy/paste, and it's not too painful (and it would only take a weekend to make a package that implements paredit).

You don't get that benefit with emacs + paredit since the data structure is still a text string at the end of the day.

It would be dependent on paredit conventions, teaching "shapes" along with symbols.

I searched for it after reading top-level thread since a lot of comments are basically describing Paredit.

Paredit is good, but I'd like to see a more visual way of dealing with the structure.

Paredit is wonderful and the only way to write lisp.
