Just because We've decided to use the Pantone system to simply things doesn't mean a Pantone Swatch looks the same in all lights (Luminance).

They're referring to Pantone series 500 and 700 colors.[1] Obviously, you're expected to understand the Pantone Color System.

Otherwise they'd have to list the specific pantone(tme) or whatever for the colors they are claiming.

So yeah, it's impossible to copyright a magenta- although you can probably specify which Pantone magenta for the sake of certain pigment specifications you mean, you can't trademark magenta.

Cadburys tried to trademark the specific colour Pantone 2865c for bars of milk chocolate.

If you look at the paint chips in the store -- or the Pantone books -- you'll see they're organized a certain way.

It has no organizing principle, and given the identifier of a Pantone color, there’s no way to predict what the color looks like.

When I grap the pantone color with a color picker I get #f8e763, while a minion gives me #fad24e.

I'm in the print world, either it supports Pantone or it's not that useful of a tool.

Every piece of print hardware I know of uses Pantone standard colours which no other software supports properly or fully.

Unless we can deal with Pantone and other weird colour spaces on linux, nobody will switch.

It's like the kind of complaints you read on Tripadvisor ("the bell boy didn't smile enough to me", "the bedsheets where not the exact Pantone blue they had on the hotel website" etc).

I mean, I know there's Pantone, but are there sites out there in the same vein as these free resources but which charge?

Pantone as a collection of colors is not a color order system.
