The catacombs in Paris are really something else, although I always tell people to ditch the Louvre and head to Montmartre for fine French culture from la belle epoque.

I would chalk that up to the fact that most foreigners visiting the Plaza des Armas in Lima are probably an order of magnitude less wealthy than the busloads middle-class tourist crowding Montmartre in Paris.

Montmartre and Borne come to mind, both gorgeous but crowded with visitors and defaced by postcard stands.
