I visited an organic farmer last summer who was using a robotic milker for his 40 or so dairy cows.

One guy's job is to milk cows (with an electric milker).

Thus eliminating that 5x increase in the cost of feed for the milker, allowing him to expand his supply to meet the new demand for milk.

To a German ear it sounds like pigeon milker...

Snail Milker isn't a job one hears much of.

That said it does usually take 3 or 4 people to run a rotary milker, 1 for udder cleaning, 1-2 for attaching milkers, and 1 for post-milk sanitizing.

It is a lot easier to stay clean when you are doing 60 cows rather than 4,500 cows on a rotary milker set 4 feet higher than you are.

My next route led me to a professional cow milker (a skill learned from my father) as I completed my undergrad in English and Communications.

VC subsidies are usually about hiding the true market value of a product to attract customers who otherwise wouldn't have shown interest until it's time to crank the money milker.

Like they quote 30-40 seconds in the article to hook a cow up to a milker with a robot, but a human can do it in 3-4 seconds and with a rotary milker they can milk near 5,000 cows 3x a day like that.

Saw this come a mile away when they started jacking up the subscription cost for hobbyist licenses (~late 2019 according to my emails.) Instead of being an on-ramp for their serious offerings, it was just too good and needed to be hooked up to a milker.

I was intrigued so I did some research, apparently the “laser guided milker” is one of these [1].

Whenever a bill appears, disappears and reappears there’s a big chance it is a case of a “milker bill” or a “toll booth bill”.

Ok for one or two year but if you want to maintain a regular production over the years, at some point you’ll have a bunch of male cows (not sure the right English word for that) and a bunch of "bad milker cows".

Indeed, too many employers of software engineers here are service companies that tend to neglect the good "explorer" mind set, resting on a more lucrative "milker" working style, and sometimes even relying on "cowboy" techniques to catch new clients.
