In the Q&A session at the end, one of the questioners is Dave Ditzel who headed Transmeta.

David A Patterson, Dave Ditzel and many other long time engineers in this space seem to really like it.

Indeed the Patterson Ditzel paper even comments on this: Microprogrammed control allows the implementation of complex architectures more cost-effectively than hardwired control.

Found it (Google didn't help at all) on page 19 of the oral history of David Ditzel at the computer history museum.

The architecture has been evaluated by people like Dave Ditzel and Jim Keller.

The same Ditzel that went on to found Transmeta 3 years later.

David Ditzel left Sun and founded Transmeta along with Bob Cmelik, Colin Hunter, Ed Kelly, Doug Laird, Malcolm Wing and Greg Zyner in 1995.

I wonder if Dave Ditzel is working for Arm these days.

Ditzel eventually quit Sun and went on to found Transmeta and develop the Crusoe.
