Based on his picture, Steve Patterson is one of the younger grumpy old white men I have seen.

Where are the opinions of women like Susan Sons and Meredith Patterson who quite like nerd culture and feel it's misunderstood by many of those writing about what's wrong with tech culture?

I don't know the current state of literature, but when I took the courses (12 years ago) the Patterson and Hennessy books (Computer Organization and Design, Computer Architecture) were terrific.

If you want to read narrative non-fiction about HFT, "Dark Pools" by Patterson, which also has its mistakes, is much better.
