This laptop (really one of the first netbooks) had an 800 Mhz Transmeta Crusoe processor and 256 MB of RAM (later upgraded to the maximum of 384).

The Transmeta Crusoe was a particularly notable (if not particularly successful ) case in point, which brought that layer a little more visibility than most, although in all honestly, was probably mostly well-known for having been Linus Torvalds' employer.

It's like calling Transmeta "the" company behind Linux.

Not sure about this Russian chip but in the case of Transmeta and Nvidia Denver (and to a lesser degree, Intel x86 µops), writing the "native" code directly is not beneficial in any way.

More interesting would be something like Transmeta/Project Denver, where the JIT is deeply integrated with the CPU.

Denver has some interesting code morphing (a la Transmeta) tech, but has in order instruction pipelining.

This is basically Transmeta's Efficeon (same IP and team, even) with a bunch of improvements.
