bolo

Ah bolo - so many schooltime lunches engrossed in the magic of network gaming.

I was still dressing in western clothes, big slash pockets, a bolo and all those things.

I'd love to see a modern port of bolo for Mac with modern networking and such.

This + a bolo tie and you've pretty much nailed it.

If I am going to give an address at the MIT computer center, I dress with a bolo and an old corduroy jacket or something else.

In my time I've worn earrings, ear cuffs, necklaces, dreadlock weaves, bolo ties, neck ties, zipper ties, hats, etc etc etc...

If you want more military sci-fi, check out the Hammer's Slammers series by David Drake (tank company in spaaaaaace, but not the stupid Bolo stuff); he also had one anthology that was very nearly solid cyberpunk surveillance dystopia, Lacy and His Friends.

I spent a summer disassembling the code for Bolo on the Apple ][e, giving myself infinite lives or invulnerability, dissolving the maze edges and wandering around in general memory until I segfaulted the machine, disabling the enemy tanks by forbidding them from turning left - it was fantastic!

During the 20 years I lived there, I cycled everywhere, and I had an almost weekly accident, always at the same three intersections -- cars running into stationary bikes, half the time openly on purpose (there is a bolo for a taxi driver for attempted manslaughter under my name: his plaque was unlegible on the camera, but him accelerating twice into my bike was clear).

Many an afternoon was spent in the computer science lab that had a bunch of Macs hooked up, playing Bolo.

Somehow the red icon on the homepage instantly reminded me of the tank view of Bolo.
