Unfortunately the acoustics space is full of hacks and cargo-cult acousticians who don't truly understand the physics or the practical needs of listeners.

Although the listeners came from various professional backgrounds (they included musicians, violin makers, and acousticians), very similar results were obtained from all backgrounds.

All sound waves are directional, but the point made by acousticians is that in any enclosed space with dimensions smaller than the wavelength in question (56 feet for 20Hz), low frequencies are effectively non-directional because they fill the entire space (with nulls at various points).

He's 55 yrs old I doubt that would be much of an issue, especially since a lot of the acousticians in the Boston area are around that age and I can think of at least a half-dozen Boston-area hires in that age group.
