Insisting that Ulysses can be read as a stand-up delivery of a hilarious Irish comic is misleading.

That said, for those writers who do care about structure and typography, Ulysses looks pretty cool.

Funny process - at first you think Ulysses is hard, and it is, but you get used to that world.

I didn't mean to suggest that Ulysses is a breeze.

There're passages in Ulysses that will make thirteen-year-olds stitch up, but it's a very rare thirteen-year-old who will endure the whole thing.

I was so bent on reading Ulysses as Serious Great Literature that I couldn't read it as something amusing.

I found Ulysses was worth the effort, but I'm not so sure about Finnegans Wake - any dissenting views?

I remember reading the first few chapters of Ulysses in a high school English class.

As someone mentioned in this thread, Ulysses 3 can do this.

The problem I had reading Ulysses when I tried at fifteen was the opposite.

With a handful of small guideposts, Ulysses is completely readable.

If you ever need to "upgrade" a bit, then i've personally found Ulysses to be the next logical step.

Ulysses' problem is that, despite saving as Markdown, there's no "real" Markdown editing mode.

Others have commented on a description of the literal style/structure of "Dhalgren" that "it sounds a bit like 'Ulysses'".

If you want "crazy-to-grasp", you want Ulysses, To the Lighthouse, Gravity's Rainbow, Infinite Jest, Moby Dick, House of Leaves, etc.

The review is fascinating with its comparisons to the Waste Land, Ulysses, and comment that it might not be a novel at all.

As you mentioned, you adapt fairly quickly to Ulysses, but Finnegan's Wake is a whole other universe.

Ulysses is obviously a huge accomplishment, beyond nearly all writers.) Compare that with, say, Dickens.
