I agree, The story in a story in an attempt to talk over the heads of the Trisolarans is hilarious.

But stable solutions are what the Trisolarans want to escape to, so while they're not how you become Trisolarans, they're definitely a way to be targeted by them.

The most relevant event to us here is the arrival of Trisolarans in about 400 years.

Especially since the actual political chess/information game between the trisolarans and humans is so interesting.

Why not just colonize as the Trisolarans made steps to do to Earth?

First novel: The Trisolarans did not contact earth first.

It was literally the reason why the Trisolarans utilized the Sophons /to halt technological progress of human research past a certain boundary/ by having the Sophons manipulate the results of any microscopic-scale particle experiments of scientists across the globe.

Firstly, for a planet to evolve sapient life it must be inhabitable for, at minimum, millions of years if not billions, therefore if this orbital instability was going to wipe out the trisolarans it would've done it already.

Counterpoint: it's extremely useful for the Trisolarans to know when their next stable period will be, but that doesn't make it reasonable to demand an estimate and factor it into a contract unless you're really really clear about the uncertainty in the estimate.

It's supposed to emulate the evolution of trisolarans from the "Three Body Problem" novel by Liu Cixin.

Second novel: Calling the conflict between humans and Trisolarans a "complex strategic game" is a bit of a stretch.

Third novel: Luo Yi does not hold the key to the survival of the Trisolarans and there were no "micro-black holes" racing towards earth.

Trisolarans did evolve under much different selection pressure that requires effective mass coordination to dehydrate when deemed necessary for civilization's survival.

The Borg defeated the Trisolarans, but Barbarella defeated the Borg.

Trisolarans were relatively low tech civ in the book.
