What was an added bonus is in those days rails core members were providing rails support on TextDrive.

My site went down back in May(?) when TextDrive mishandled what was apparently the final switchover from Joyent.

Back in 2004 me and several hundred others fronted the money to get Joyent (aka TextDrive) off the ground.

There is a giant notice on the front page of the new textdrive.com re this now btw.

There are a few different angles on it, and one memorable one was the TextDrive thing[1][2].

Joyent was started a year or so (early 2005) before it acquired TextDrive (late 2005).

The Wikipedia accounts of both TextDrive and Joyent do not sound accurate to me.

TextDrive was incredible for hosting Textpattern (anyone else missing Textile?) which at the time was a nice and quite loved alternative to Wordpress.

The people at TextDrive even helped a lot of us scale our apps.

I don't know that that's an entirely fair assessment of TextDrive (and not just because they're a customer of Virtualmin).

My old VC account on TextDrive was unusable for production, so I'm a little wary.

I don't know about their latest iteration, but TextDrive used to be one of the few hosting companies that hosted Rails applications.

You should think really hard about the Textdrive/Joyent lifetime hosting debacle before offering lifetime anything.

Edit: Not that it matters much, but it was Textdrive's (née Joyant) recommendation back in '04 that got me to sign up.
