That doesn't mean you can't use AV that's not shitty, or Bit9 (application whitelisting, which a lot of AV products have built in now) like Tavis goes on to suggest at the end of the paper.

For full disclosure purposes I also have to admit thinking very highly of Justin Schuh and being basically in cortisol-redlining mortal terror of Tavis Ormandy.

Now compare this with the attitude of their Security researcher, Tavis Ormandy, bashing Microsoft's lackadaisical approach towards fixing bugs and has publicly published 0-days twice [1, 2, 3, 4].

(As a gamer, though, I'm over the moon, especially since Star Citizen will probably support the Rift.) As a developer, I'm more interested in new input methods, such as the programming-by-voice scheme Tavis Rudd demoed at Pycon 2013; my wrists aren't as young as they used to be, and given that programming is my hobby as well as my profession, anything that takes some of the load off them will be welcome.

In his comments, he says it is for "those who are interested in trying something like this," and the readmes of most of the repos thank Tavis Rudd for inspiration, which would be a little strange if he wrote them.

Tavis Rudd is using it in the real world, and says he's faster with it than typing.

Tavis immediately went ahead with publishing the exploit, but Tom but gave them 2 weeks, even after persistently demonstrating the criticality of the exploit.

Tavis bashed MS because he was riled up by their attitude, because maybe culture at Google was different regarding patching critical bugs and moved fast.
