taffeta

I actually knew most of the words; apparently though I'm in the minority of men for not knowing taffeta.

Not the trussed up, constraining taffeta monstrosities David Lynch had them squeezed into.

Poor dear just got out of finishing school only to discover that the world isn't entirely made of taffeta dresses and lace doilies.

I clearly don't watch enough MLP, as I have no idea what taffeta is.

I fail to find a stereotype answer for this (unlinke kevlar or taffeta)...

Now I need to find my moist, used, taffeta katana.

After looking it up, I'm slightly surprised that tulle is so much lower than taffeta given that both are used in gowns and I run into references to tulle in poetry all the time[1].

The fashion-related words (taffeta, chignon, espadrille, etc) being known more to women makes sense to me, but I'm not sure why the three Japanese words are more known to men.

Similarly, there's only one word know by less than 50% of men, "taffeta".

That is to say, I know that a solenoid is a kind of switch (a common failure point in the ignitions of 1960s cars), and I know that "taffeta" is a kind of fabric.

However I knew what "taffeta" was thanks to MLP:FiM.
