I'm pretty sure Guy Steele's paper title was tonge-in-cheek, as around a decade before the well-known letter "Go To Statement Considered Harmful" by Edsger Dijkstra was published.

(Anecdote about same: I IMed a friend and said "I'm sitting next to Guy Steele" and he replied "Cool, ask him who Guy Steele is." Damn kids.

I'm sure I heard talks or articles from Gosling, Guy Steele, and others that explicitly said this as well.

I don't have the exact quote/source right here handy, but I believe that was Guy Steele's intention with Scheme.
