shortbread

One of the long term plans for OpenFreeMap is to migrate to Shortbread + Versatiles styles.

That's also one motivation for developing Shortbread which is at this point less developed than Tilezen.

I had also thought shortbread excluded a lot of POI types, but maybe I need to review again.

Versatiles uses the Shortbread format instead [2] which is published under a CC0 license.

It appeared at the same time as Shortbread on the osm.org website.

Perhaps I can defuse the situation a little bit by mentioning the hard brown tiles (of shortbread?) with the pink 'custard'.

Oh but that default style for Shortbread is so ugly!

It sounds like versatiles uses the shortbread schema (contrast vs OpenMapTiles, protomaps) - a container format: a way to pack multiple tiles into a single file.

Whereas here it's mostly shortbread or bourbons/custard creams.

The tile schema being used for the current testing (shortbread) doesn't support many languages, but they I think those working on this want to support them once the bugs are worked out.

[1] Right now the thought of chocolate, peanut butter, shortbread cookies or anything like that turns my stomach even if I'm hungry because I'm tapering a medication which causes weight gain and dropped about 10kg in 4 weeks.

For anyone who wants to actually try the new layer, it's called "Shortbread" and can be accessed under the layers selector.

To everyone with complaints about the new "Shortbread" styling, I agree that it's not perfect but that's kinda missing the point.

The new recipe produces something you might call "peanut butter flavored shortbread", I guess.

Make sure it's set to the "Shortbread" layer.

TIL that Walkers in England is different than Walker’s Shortbread, the latter being the makers of really tasty goods in attractive keepsake tins.

Also relevant is that the vector tile is not only in a couple formats (pmtiles, mbtiles) but conforms to a couple different schemas (Shortbread, OpenMapTiles) which determines what kinds of data shows up.
