There's an OS project run by Joanna Rutkowska and some other folks called Qubes that does exactly that.

TrueCrypt is about the guy with the cinderblock, not about stopping Joanna Rutkowska from installing a keylogger.

Joanna Rutkowska is famous in computer security circles and highly credible on this particular topic.

No matter what Joanna Rutkowska does with her (very slick) USB key, things like TrueCrypt are very cheap, very very effective insurance.

I recognise the name Joanna Rutkowska and I am aware that she is well-known and respected in this field.

Outside of conference presentations, Rutkowska doesn't have much peer-reviewed work in the literature.

The break hasn't been published yet (it's a Black Hat DC talk), but it's very likely to be real, since Rutkowska is credible.

The last relevant VM escape was in 2006, discovered by Rutkowska herself.

That's because Rutkowska is originally from the malware/rootkit/virus part of the industry.

Even though I never used Qubes OS I used to really enjoy Joanna Rutkowska's passion for it.

And indeed, I got the idea of workspace and gateway VMs from Joanna Rutkowska's early posts about the Qubes project.

The only thing I'm aware of that does something akin to this is Rutkowska's Qubes OS.
