There are plants of a family called spurges that can be mistaken for purslane and are toxic.

Many of the other plants on there sometimes grow freely in your backyard: like dandelion, dock, purslane.

And it's incredibly unlikely someone's going to be pissed at you for picking their dandelions/purslane/cat's ear/goosefoot/plantain.

As with any foraging, you should also make sure that you know that you're actually harvesting purslane and not something else.

Dandelion can be a weed, but also can be useful, Purslane is like that.

The rest of my medieval foods bucket list includes purslane and sorrel.

I don't have enough expertise to talk about how likely it is that you'll mistake spurge for purslane or how to identify.

Everywhere were bluets and Spanish bayonets, goosefoot, morning glories and day lilies, the hairy-fruited bean, purslane and clotbur and sesame and panic grass and feverfew.

What there is quite a bit of is edible greens: dandelions, oxylis, purslane, amaranth, lots of edible green plants and weeds.

Purslane you'll know it's correct if it tastes good, it's one of the best random green plants I've foraged.

Purslane is actually really tasty to eat in scrambled eggs or soup.
