Yes, we have this scheme in our Finnish polytechnic. Regardless though, people still do it and try and get away with it.

If you said the word 'polytechnic' in Canada, nobody would know what you mean. In Canada, we use the word University, and College, but they mean different things.

These are things taught in even the lowest polytechnic school and they don't know them. They don't know the bounds of their own ignorance because they think cs is just knowing a few programming languages, whipping up a few apps and websites.

My university is an ex-polytechnic, so it focuses a lot on teaching as well. You can quite easily get by just teaching - we have a few "just teachers", though they tend to be the older employees.

It's also interesting to see that the founder was a priest who started off with a co-operative polytechnic school and bootstrapped everything from that base.

If there's ever a program that should fall under a polytechnic or college umbrella rather than the university umbrella, systems administration and network maintenance is one.

Waterloo's technical programs would be at home at a very strong polytechnic. It's not Oxbridge and never will be." University" is a misnomer but English-speaking Canada doesn't use "technical university" or "polytechnic" and "college" means something else.
