I still think Fox screwed the country by calling Florida an hour before the polls on the panhandle closed. The voting margin in panhandle probably would have erased the dispute and allowed for an easier transition.

And a lot of people go there with the intention of being homeless because they are treated fairly well by the city and there are lot of people to panhandle from or perform for.

War on drugs[1] is a cure far worse than the illness it tries to cure: It's one thing to idealise the hippie culture of the 60s, it's another to bend the facts of what GGP panhandle neighbourhood is really like to fit that narrative. The key thing noted here is that the vast majority of street kids in the Haight are there by choice, up to and including the choice to panhandle to make enough for $18 bags of organic dog food. It's refreshing to read, because I'm tired of the two extremes usually presented, either that the street kids are people to be pitied or trash to be thrown out.
