The speed of pdf.js on older computers is abysmal compared to native applications like okular.

I will have to try Zathura but since KDE is my choice of desktop environment Okular comes natural.

There doesn't seem to be any reason you couldn't get xpdf/evince/okular to run.

Evince and Okular appear to behave differently and have different feature sets).

Kpartsplugin with Okular also render PDFs faster in Firefox than pdf.js.

When used with heavy PDFs which basically contain tons of images (like scanned books) PDF.js is noticeably slower than native plugins (like Kparts plugin with Okular on KDE) used with Firefox.

Define "KDE-independent" - Okular works fine on other Linux desktops (it's also set up as the default PDF reader on my Windows 8 install, actually).

Not being able to open files inline is not very relevant (Okular is there for that).

Long before I was using KDE, I needed a feature full PDF viewer and I found Okular.

I heard that KDE/Okular can do it, is there any KDE independent software that can do it?
