For American bacon flavor, you need nitrites (nitrates are a slow-release source of nitrites).

They detected some nitrates or nitrites, I forget which (or what those exactly mean).

So your resource chain goes fish food -> fish -> waste (nitrites) -> plants -> human food.

Applying nitrites directly to the plants would be more efficient.

Corned beef tastes like corn beef because of nitrites.

If this is not a scam, it might be perfect for an aquaponics water quality sensor (if it can detect single ppm quantities of ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites).

You're still getting the industrial levels of nitrates/nitrites.

For example, products that like to villainize both Nitrates/Nitrites and MSG.

Nitrites are what give bacon (and ham) its flavor.
