If it's windows, ninite is pretty good (although maybe you're looking for less interaction).

I don't have any Java in the browser, on ubuntu I apt-get the openjdk and on Windows I use ninite.

For Windows, Ninite covers a decent range of basic freeware and open source software, and Chocolatey covers a lot more but is less user-friendly.

I can see use cases where you would want an installer to install more than just 1 GPL app (ninite?) and I'm sure it has further implications...

I typically use the Ninite installer on a clean, freshly installed Windows machine because the installer can be ran again in the future to update those same apps.

I'm not talking about ninite (which is private/commercial) but an open source repository of installers that you can "apt-get" for Windows.

There have been two mergers, not one (Ninite is also a merger).

The barest approximation of dependency-management in Windows is supplied by Ninite.

Ninite is always the first thing I download on a newly imaged Windows PC.
