Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine fame is well known for doing amazing things with budget tools[2].

We'll see if Morello ever makes its way to the types of CPUs used on phones and higher-performance devices.

I do not mean the Morello processor, which is a proof of concept.

I just checked out morello, it has page flashes when animations finish, which is a big disappointment.

They made the Morello research CPUs, but did not sell them.

But I'll never play as well as Slash or Tom Morello or even as good as the kids that sit and jam in guitar shops.

Morello boards are hard to come by, but there have been efforts to offer cloud-computing style use of them, especially now that bhyve support exists; if you're interested I can try to find out more (I'd offer you time on my cloud-computing Morello cluster from MSR, but it's offline for silly reasons).

(Although oddly enough, I have been working on memory tagging lately.) Regarding performant implementations of capability architectures, Fil-C running on modern CPUs is eventually going to overtake Arm's Morello reference board because it doesn't look like there's going to be a successor to the board.

Morello is definitely what I'd been eyeing for a while.
