Which leads to a question for the OP: does this work with mongoose.js?

I actually didn't even notice Mongoose being mentioned on that page, to be honest, given that the instructions were for `mongodb`.

In general, our systems use MongoDB for the database, Mongoose for schema's and then we rolled our own authentication, utilities and errors.

The author said they used Mongoose to define the schema, and since they needed to define the schema, they'd rather just do it in the database.

The Mongoose will die off in the winter.

Mongoose is also very much not the default MongoDB client in Node.js - it's a third-party client library by Automattic.

Mongoose isn't the default Node.js MongoDB driver, though it is very popular.
