With some thinking, I can intuit and see visually in that what you mean by 'each level of the lerp tree'.

My possibly incorrect thought was that these are non-linear, therefore, how is lerp suitable?

The math for Bezier curves is usually a bit beyond me, but this seems to use a simple lerp (linear interpolation) to split.

I would add some lerp-smoothing to the position of the cursor/touch, since it's a bit rigid.

For example, to determine whether to stop calculating lerp: x*x+y*y <= epsilon.

Plus, you can actually lerp between quaternions (more generally - they compose).
