The number of cities where a subway is consistently faster than a skilled motorcyclist who can lane-split is very small if not zero.

Making it easier for me to lane-split on the other hand is not required of the driver.

They're also much larger and would never be able to lane-split (legal or not).

A bike is a slow-moving vehicle (like a tractor or horse-drawn carriage) and when you pass a slow-moving vehicle, you should not do it in their lane (exception -- bicycles and motorcycles may lane-split).

The study tries to correlate those things with motorcylists who lane-split, while openly admitting that they actually correlate with motorcyclists who commute to and from work on their motorcycles.

Usually this is a frustration because I’m trying to lane-split between the cars so I’m following at a relatively short distance and slowly getting closer.

I've only ever lane-split when traffic is essentially stopped; at that speed, having somebody suddenly change lanes in front of me would suck, but I wouldn't expect to die from it because I'm moving slowly.

Before I quit riding my motorcycle, I recalled one important thing: all the way from the Oakland Hills to downtown San Francisco, many (I dare say 'most') drivers would step their cars to the edges of their lanes to make room for me to lane-split.
