Lots of people were turned off to reddit when Anderson Cooper brought /r/jailbait to the public eye.

But really that was the beginning of the end, r/jailbait was shut down because of illegal content being posted.

Also, jailbait was probably a little closer to black and white than things like gamergate and this adolescent namecalling.

During the r/jailbait shutdown, Reddit was more successful in getting the word out about exactly where the line was drawn.

Getting rid of illegal things like jailbait was a good idea, and consistent with American values.

My Reddit replacement is Reddit, minus all the people who want to leave because of Reddit closing r/jailbait, r/thefappening, and r/fatpeoplehate.

Notwithstanding that /r/jailbait got banned years ago, sounds like you're being pretty selective here.

Honestly, the writing should have been obviously on the wall when r/jailbait was banned.

Other teacup storms like the removal of /r/jailbait, their handling of 'the fappening' and gamergate don't seem have affected reddit much at all.

If anything Reddit has improved by banning subreddits like jailbait and fatpeoplehate.

We could also compare the recent banning of /r/fatpeoplehate with /r/jailbait earlier.

It is a mistake to assume Ellen Pao is the reason for /r/fatpeoplehate's removal, both /r/jailbait and /r/creepshots were banned before she worked at Reddit.

It was called /r/jailbait!" They're getting a reputation that's going to make buying their ad platform untenable for many large advertisers.

Also Reddit has banned controversial subs before (Fappening, Jailbait, etc) and the sky didn't fall.
