HoloLens isn't in any sense holography -- it's an augmented reality device that integrates light-angle depth cues.

To be fair, most of CNN's budget goes to advancing holography science, not astrophysics or investigating/analyzing news.

Battery and weight are tomorrow's battlefield unless revolutionary holography tech arrives to kick everyone's collective ass.

So what this experiment is actually testing is the truth of QED, which implies holography.

This worked because both SAR and phased arrays are fundamentally similar to optical holography, but using microwaves instead of light waves.

It seems like this could also be used for cheaper tri-color (or quad-color) holography.

Other than using photons, the Rift fulfills almost zero of the criteria for holography.

But NO, this has nothing to do with holography as stated.

A true "white" laser would be coherent on all frequencies, but I'm guessing that's pretty hard to accomplish (so limited holography uses).

I could be wrong, but IMO you and bane are both confusing "holography" with "3D display", and/or "display that involves depth".

We don't have a "complete" theory of quantum gravity but we do have a number of competing partial theories, and we can already make some strong conclusions, such as holography, that are generic to many or any QG models.

Holography is a specific thing, let's not confuse things by assigning magical powers to the Rift.

Holography requires creation of light fields from a flat surface - each point on the surface reflects a different amount of light depending on what angle it is viewed from, exactly mimicking the way light would pass through that plane if an object were there.
