All in all, the Hoka / ON competition is a matter of marketing, trendiness, and poor options for wide feet.

My shoes are Hoka Speedgoat, 2 pairs of 5s, 2 pairs of 6s so far.

Nike is losing market share to Hoka and other brands that make shoes that are actually comfortable for long term wear.

I wear Hoka running shoes because my shins stopped hurting after I bought them.

On and Hoka have been eating their lunch.

On and Hoka took over those empty shelves.

So that's how Hoka exploded onto shelves!

I would say that Hoka and On have probably done a better job at capitalizing on the opportunity than Nike has done at creating it.

But it turns out that being on the shelf next to Hoka and On, where a customer can try both, was doing more work than anyone gave it credit for..

Should one of them cross the finish line in two hours—or faster—all six will share equally in the $50 million jackpot promised by the heirs to the Hoka One One fortune.

It's impossible to reconcile my experience, and the experience of so many other barefoot (and minimalist - although I don't recommend it) runners, with the advertising from Hoka and from podiatrists.

One caveat not yet discussed is that both Nike and Adidas left open the "maximalist cushioning" market that Hoka pounced on for everyone enjoying plush running shoes for walking.

I'd rather take the "only dresses with startup T-shirt" guy over the "I've gotta have the Sydney Sweeney Jeans" person, and especially over the sneakerhead crowd which now thinks Hoka and NB is superior to Nike.

My running group has oscillated between this style of shoe (Hoka), NB, Brooks, and minimalist shoes.

Hoka and On have just swooped in and taken over the wide feet market.

We went crap shoes, barefoot shoes, huge (Hoka) shoes, now carbon-stuffed-futuristic-foam fat cheater shoes.
