There will be some service like Kayak or Expedia to find you the lowest fare in the future.

Personally negotiating with hotels (something my former employer/now owned by Expedia spent a fortune on) seems hard to scale.

Maybe even enough to break the priceline/expedia market grip and bring people right to the chains website.

But airbnb has a long way to go to be Expedia / Priceline size.

I recently had an issue with Expedia and was getting no where with phone or email support.

Particularly where Expedia or Orbitz effectively are the market.

How about Expedia then: $5.7 billion in sales.

I was just looking at expedia, but I saw some horror story articles which made me think that their Bitcoin integration is a second-class citizen.

Expedia had this for SF (weekdays in August): 22 hotels $75-$125 79 hotels $125-$199 88 hotels $200-$299 79 hotels $300+ 5 star average of $382, 4 star average of $348 etc The article really should be using median pricing anyway, but I don't see where they could get such a high average - the total average from Expedia is $246.

Oh I am in Ireland, dont get me started on Amazon (its hit and miss at times when it comes to deliverability) As for Expedia their integration could be better (need to use a US ip for coinbase payment option to even show up nowadays) but had no issues spending thousands with them, if it wasnt for bitcoin I just use any of their dozens of competitors, so one little change and they got a loyal customer.

I would consider much lower trafficked sites like Expedia, Zappos and Huffington Post more "mainstream".

All my hotel purchases in last year have been with bitcoin via Expedia, using a credit card form (and trusting it doesnt get "mistreated") feels like something from another era to me.

Each category of things not to build comes with a couple of examples of giant competitors: Wikipedia, Wordpress, Expedia...

Basically you've built a travel agency instead of Expedia, which, again, is more costly.

That leaves Expedia, Priceline & TripAdvisor as the remaining 3 big players.
