Am I making sense or am I being escapist with my answers here? Do let me know.

There's was not an escapist pursuit, they still wanted to be connected to people.

Games are just escapist entertainment, whereas novels have changed my worldview, stuck with me for years, and made me feel I was there. I can't think of a game that has been more than entertainment for me, and I've played quite a few also.

But it seems to completely go against the minimalist escapist travel ideal that is romanticised in the article.

One thing which does well during recessions is cheap, escapist entertainment. So perhaps try to appeal to not only actual tourist types but also people who want to imagine getting away.

But when it comes down to it, it's escapist media. People don't care that it's unlikely, and they most certainly don't assume that it in any way reflects real life, any more than someone playing a FPS is likely to take a gun to work and start shooting up the place.

I'm an escapist. Whether it's movies, youtube, video games, literally anything that is unproductive, I'll spend an inordinate time doing.

It's still escapist, but I feel more comfortable escaping in to stories where the characters have the same problems I do. I don't judge anyone for reading what they want to, but I don't understand the appeal of reading books about teenagers' problems.

I think she's misinterpreting Game of Thrones by describing it as an attractive, escapist fantasy world. I think that Martin's point is that we should feel ambivalent about this world because it is, in many ways, a brutal, horrible place.

Could your view that questioning your place in the universe as futile not be seen as escapist/defeatist? Why do you trust the biological system for consciousness but not how that consciousness operates?

It's almost purely world-building escapist fiction. There's not any obvious message apart from perhaps a satirical introspective of our own society.

Escapism is a fairly typical symptom of someone too depressed to have perspective on their problems, and once they get a handle on the depression the desire for escapist solution wanes.

But it's ultimately escapist. It seems to me like open sourcing cheap manufacturing methods with a target economic scale of the metropolitan area would do a lot more to build a genuinely liberatory society.

Because the audience gets a case of vicarious, escapist, fantasy, emotional experience entertainment, that is, gets to enjoy 'feeling' that they ARE the character they have identified with. Then the audience cares about the character much as they would themselves and, thus, continues to pay attention to see how the character handles the problem.

Additionally, consider that videogames are often escapist entertainment that people play specifically to get away from real-life financial pressures or wealth-based status sorting.

The combat and physics are really excellent, and the backstory and aesthetic are captivating as hell, but it falls short of that escapist 'real place' feeling for me because if it were real you would be playing some sort of slave-pilot lashed permanently to the controls of their spaceship.
