Why would you want your VM to implement time based pre-emption?

With hardware support for pre-emption it can work.

But it's not true!The normal pre-emption rights that every investor gets are what's used for these cases.

You'd have to run erlang directly on the hardware without an intermediary OS and you'd have to schedule the individual erlang processes using pre-emption and by giving them priorities.
