Saffron comes from a specific Crocus plant named Crocus Sativus aka Autumn Crocus (because it blooms in Autumn).

In fact the crocus is very hardy - it grows on a path which we walk over every day.

In the Netherlands and Flanders the week-long school break in late February/early March is called the Krokusvakantie (crocus vacation).

Interesting, I was just contemplating growing some saffron crocus for my own consumption.

That is open fraud, because Mexican "saffron" is neither related genetically (it is a thistle, not a crocus), nor in taste (it is essentially a food dye).

The Latin name “Crocus.” is very clean, less embellished than the rest of the text, the Italian name “Zaffrano” is more cursive-y and at a slant, etc.

Crocus is common and the flower looks very similar to Saffron's but it is not that.
